Batista and John Cena Bore Fest In Wrestling Promo

I skim by the new WWE wrestling these days. It’s still entertaining at times, but it’s nothing like the classic wrestling from the 1970’s-early 1990’s.

Sorry, but I got IRRITABLY bored watching Batista blab about John Cena on WWE Raw. Okay, a so-so little scuffle at the end, but geez oh flip. Up until then I was like, “Come on Batista. You’re making me want to change the channel.”

The wrestling interviews from the past – the wrestling promos – were just killer over all. Yeah, there are always some bores. But at least the bores were almost funny because they were so boring.

Classic wrestling example was Bob Backlund – who happens wacky and funny now. But back then, “By golly Vince, I’m gonna give it 100 percent. And just hope the fans will come and support me, because I’m gonna need every last bit of skill and energy to defeat Killer Khan, George “The Animal” Steel, The Iron Sheik,” and so on and so on.

I’ve been watching the Rowdy Roddy Piper wrestling interview after the Wrestlemania match when Mr. T was best buddies with Hulk Hogan.

What absolute gem. Can anyone today touch that masterpiece Wrestling Promo?

I mean the “Da Planes” reference to Danny DeVito was so off the cuff. Shaking the dripping water from his freshly showered head in Mean Gene Okerlund’s face.

Great stuff. I mean once Piper steps in at :57 seconds into it – until he walks off the screen – can you even think of turning it off? And yes, it’s not technically a promo. But is sure as heck makes you want to check out Piper the next time something comes up. Piper’s Pit was really nothing more than a glorified wrestling promo. It was a great set to start up feuds. There’s nothing quite like slamming a coconut on someone’s head for starting a feud and hyping a match. Of course I’m talking about Jimmy Snuka.

Look forward to your thoughts….Oh, and about Mean Gene’s comb over on prominent display in the Roddy Piper post-Wrestle Mania explosion. One of the best wouldn’t you say?
